Today I wanted to learn why Artur, my blind friend, does not use speech recognition in Windows 10.
So I turned my microphone on, got the voice recognition system ready, and I said this out loud:
Three rings for the elven kings under the sky
Seven for dwarf lords in their halls of stone
Nine for mortal men doomed to die
One for the dark lord on his dark throne”
And this is what the voice recognition software understood:
Three readings for the album Kings under the sky
Seven Ft Worth lords marvels of stone
Designs for mortal man whom to down
One for the Dr. Morgan is back Sloan
Well, I didn’t know Sauron’s last name was Morgan. But I’m not surprised he was a doctor.
After careful consideration, I am not going to use speech recognition. Nor recommend it. Ever.
So much for the dreams of all-powerful Artificial Intelligence that was supposed to write poems for us by the year 2000. In 2018 it can’t ever read one.
